More than 135 people had a great time at BBBS of Cherokee County’s BBQ, Boots, and Beer gala Oct. 5 at the Hackney Warehouse in Murphy.
Guests mingled and enjoyed wonderful appetizers, barbecue pork and chicken, and sides, as well as some yummy banana pudding from Big Nicks in Murphy. Also available were some lovely dessert shooters.
The wonderful auction was accompanied by music and line dancing. Our guest speaker, Kim Johnson, sits on the board for High Lonesome Therapeutic Equestrian Center, where we’ve sponsored several children.
Like all BBBS of Western North Carolina branches, BBBS Cherokee County offers one-to-one mentoring for local children, as well providing weekly groups at some area schools. It sends kids to camp in the summer and small groups to John C. Campbell Folk School camps each year. For the past two years, BBBS Cherokee has offered after-school woodworking classes to middle school-age kids and hopes to expand that program soon.
BBBS of Cherokee County thanks all gala sponsors and those who donated auction items! And, a Big thank you to those who attended the gala. Thank you for supporting local kids!
