Our Big Futures program (formerly Success 360) is introducing Littles to a lot of new experiences.
Working with The Uncomplicated Kitchen in Cashiers later this month, we’re taking Littles grocery shopping at Ingles to talk about seasonal produce and budget basics. Then we’ll circle up at Cashiers United Methodist Church to cook, eat, and clean up together. In Haywood County, BBBS has partnered with Haywood Community College for a car maintenance workshop later this month. Bigs and Littles will learn the basics of car care and take home a handy toolkit to put their skills to use in real life!
Thanks to our friends at the STEAM Studio at UNC Asheville, our Littles will spend part of their summer learning about woodworking and electricity (some will even build their own electric guitar!). We are grateful for this new partnership with the STEAM Studio, and for Truist Foundation and Women for Women for making this possible!
In February our friends at GE Aviation Asheville hosted us for Girls in Aviation Day. Inspirational speakers, activities, tours (and swag bags) made the day extra special for our middle and high school girls and encouraged our Littles to dream Big in aviation.
Thanks to Lakievia Johnson of Steps Academic Advising & Education, our Bigs and Littles in January learned about their strengths, chose their top values, and created posters showcasing their talents and future goals.
Coming up on our Big Futures calendar are a virtual college prep workshop in May, a RiverLink science activity in June, and a bicycle maintenance workshop over the summer. Our Littles are learning BIG things!
